Solid Minerals Ministry, NIMC Partner to Boost Transparency Through Digital Identity

The Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development is strengthening its collaboration with the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to leverage digital identity in advancing reforms across Nigeria’s mining sector.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, disclosed this following a meeting with the Director-General of NIMC, Dr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, and her management team.

According to the Minister, the discussions focused on how Nigeria’s digital identity infrastructure can support ongoing efforts to improve governance, strengthen regulation, enhance security and promote transparency within the solid minerals sector.

Alake noted that a credible national identity system is critical to effective governance, as it enables government agencies to monitor activities, make data-driven decisions and improve regulatory oversight.

He explained that integrating trusted identity systems into the mining sector would support the Federal Government’s drive to sanitise the industry, strengthen accountability and create a more transparent operating environment for stakeholders and investors.

The meeting also explored opportunities presented by the newly enacted NIMC Act, which both institutions believe will enhance inter-agency collaboration and improve the use of digital technology and reliable data across government operations.

The Minister expressed confidence that deeper collaboration between the Ministry and NIMC would contribute to improved governance, increased investor confidence and the successful implementation of long-term reforms in Nigeria’s solid minerals industry.

The partnership forms part of the Federal Government’s broader agenda to modernise the mining sector, improve regulatory compliance and position solid minerals as a key driver of Nigeria’s economic diversification.
