One year ago today, Ijebuland stood still. The ancient kingdom bid farewell to one of its most influential monarchs as His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, GCON, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, was laid to rest in Ijebu Ode.
His passing marked the end of an extraordinary reign that shaped not only Ijebuland but also the cultural, political and economic landscape of Ogun State and Nigeria for decades.
Today, exactly one year later, the memories remain vivid.
The streets of Ijebu Ode witnessed an outpouring of emotion as thousands gathered to pay their final respects to a king whose voice commanded respect across the country. Political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, business executives and ordinary citizens all came together to honour a monarch whose influence extended far beyond the boundaries of his kingdom.
