For many students, graduation is often imagined as the beginning of freedom, a moment to finally leave behind lectures, assignments, deadlines and examinations. But for Peller Manny, the 18th Director of Social of the TASFUED Students’ Union, the reality has been far more emotional than he expected.

In a heartfelt message shared on social media, Peller Manny reflected on life just weeks after writing his final examination, admitting that he now misses many of the moments he once couldn’t wait to leave behind.

“It’s funny because throughout my time in school, I’d always joke that I didn’t believe in life after school,” he wrote.

According to him, he spent years counting down to his final paper, convinced that graduation would feel like complete freedom. However, barely a month after leaving campus, he says he now misses the everyday experiences that defined university life.

From random conversations after lectures to last-minute assignments, event planning, daily interactions with familiar faces and even the stress he once complained about, he says the silence that follows graduation is something no one truly prepares students for.

“Nobody really prepares you for the silence that comes after years of having somewhere to be every morning,” he wrote.

Peller described the transition from campus life to the “real world” as both exciting and uncertain, explaining that after years of following a structured academic timetable, many graduates suddenly find themselves asking one question:

“What’s next?”

He admitted that the feeling of starting life all over again can be confusing, especially when the routine that once shaped daily life suddenly disappears.

Despite the uncertainty, the former student leader encouraged those still in school to appreciate every moment of their university experience, reminding them not to rush through a season they may eventually look back on with nostalgia.

His reflection has resonated with many recent graduates who have experienced the emotional adjustment that often comes after leaving campus, a period where excitement about the future is accompanied by uncertainty and the absence of a familiar routine.
