The first edition of the Creative Spotlight Awards (CAS Awards), an initiative founded by FolaTheBahdGuy, has celebrated young creatives, entrepreneurs, entertainers, and emerging brands making notable contributions across Ago-Iwoye’s growing creative and business community.

Created to appreciate, honour and celebrate individuals who continue to invest time, energy and originality in their craft, the awards recognised people and businesses whose efforts often go unnoticed despite their influence within the community.

For the organisers, the inaugural edition represented more than the presentation of awards. It marked the beginning of a broader dream to create a platform where young people are not only acknowledged for their work but also given the visibility required to reach wider audiences.

Across Ago-Iwoye and its surrounding communities, many young creatives continue to build businesses, create content, produce music, develop brands and contribute to entertainment without receiving adequate recognition. This gap became one of the major reasons behind the establishment of the Creative Spotlight Awards.

According to the organising team, the idea behind the awards is bigger than what a single edition can accomplish.

“The first edition was aimed at kicking off the dream. We understand that the creative landscape has many individuals who are not properly recognised, appreciated or valued for their efforts and contributions. This gave us the opportunity to create a platform that does not only appreciate them but also brings them into the spotlight,” the organisers explained.

The maiden edition recognised individuals and brands across content creation, social media, music, nightlife, fashion, beauty, photography, videography, hospitality, entrepreneurship, sports and student enterprise.

The wide range of categories reflected the diversity of Ago-Iwoye’s youth and creative ecosystem. Recognition was extended beyond popular entertainers to include hairstylists, makeup artists, photographers, designers, gadget vendors, fashion entrepreneurs, hospitality businesses and student-owned brands.

Speaking on the vision behind the initiative, FolaTheBahdGuy, founder of the Creative Spotlight Awards, said the platform was established to appreciate, honour, and celebrate individuals whose creativity and commitment often go unnoticed. According to him, the long-term goal is to build a credible recognition platform that not only rewards excellence but also gives deserving creatives the visibility needed to grow their careers and businesses.

Through the awards, the organisers sought to communicate that creative excellence is not limited to those with the largest online following. Consistency, originality, community influence, business development and dedication to one’s craft also deserve to be documented and celebrated.

With its first edition completed, the Creative Spotlight Awards has taken its first major step towards building a consistent recognition platform for Ago-Iwoye’s young talents and businesses.

The challenge ahead will be to preserve the credibility of the awards, strengthen the selection process and expand the opportunities available to recipients beyond winning a title. However, the inaugural edition has already opened an important conversation about the need to document and celebrate the young people contributing to the community’s creative, entertainment and entrepreneurial development.

For the organisers, this is only the beginning. The vision is to develop CAS Awards into a platform capable of discovering overlooked talents, telling their stories and providing the visibility needed to move their work from within the community to a much larger audience.

In Ago-Iwoye, the spotlight has officially been switched on.
