Season 4, “Pepper Dem” (2019) — Mercy Eke. This is the season the internet still measures every rivalry against. Mercy’s run was inseparable from her fallout with a fellow housemate a feud so loud it split the fanbase into camps that, honestly, some fans still haven’t left. She didn’t just win a season; she gave BBNaija its first real taste of what a genuine fan war looks like.

Season 5, “Lockdown” (2020) — Laycon. Won during the strangest season the franchise has ever produced filmed in the middle of a pandemic, with a country stuck indoors right along with the housemates. Laycon’s win mattered beyond the house, too: he went on to build one of the most visible music careers of any BBNaija alum, proof that a season win could be a launchpad rather than a peak.

Season 6, “Shine Ya Eye” (2021) — Whitemoney. Not the loudest, not the most controversial just consistently likeable, week after week, in a way that turned him into one of the most enduring fan favourites the show has produced. Whitemoney’s win is the clearest evidence that Nigerians don’t always vote for drama. Sometimes they vote for whoever they’d actually want to have dinner with.

Season 7, “Level Up” (2022) — Phyna. Became only the second woman to win the show outright, taking the crown with just over 40% of the final vote. Her season is remembered for a competitive, high-energy game that never let up she played to win from day one and never really let anyone forget it.

Season 8, “All Stars” (2023) — Ilebaye Odiniya. The All Stars edition brought back familiar faces from earlier seasons, which made it that much more remarkable that one of the youngest housemates in the mix walked away with it. Ilebaye’s win, at just 22, remains one of the youngest in the franchise’s history, a reminder that “All Stars” seasons don’t always go to the biggest star.

Season 9 (2024) — Kellyrae (Kingsley Sule). Closed out a season that, like every edition before it, produced its own crop of breakout personalities — proof that even in a quieter year by BBNaija’s own dramatic standards, the show still finds its winner.

Season 10 (2025) — Imisi (Emisioluwa Ayanwale). Closed out a 71-day season last October among a final nine that included Kola, Isabella, Sultana, Jason Jae, Mensan, Koyin, Kaybobo, and Dede taking home the then-record ₦150 million package and setting the exact bar Season 11 now has to clear.

Season 11 (2026) — TBD. The house opens Sunday at 7:00 p.m., with a record ₦160 million on the line, the biggest number the show has ever put in front of a housemate, and the reason this season already feels like it’s starting from a higher stake than any before it.

Ten winners, twenty years, one theme running through all of them: BBNaija has never crowned the same kind of person twice. The quiet ones have won. The loud ones have won.
