Kebbi State - A High Court judge, Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza, has been abducted from his residence by gunmen suspected to be bandits, triggering an immediate rescue operation by security agencies in the state.
How the Abduction Happened
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday at the judge's home along Zogirma Road in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State, shortly after he reportedly returned from a trip to Sokoto State.
Sources familiar with the incident said the attackers stormed the residence and opened sporadic gunfire to intimidate residents in the area before whisking the judge away. No other member of his household was harmed during the attack, according to the sources.
Police Confirm Abduction, Deploy Tactical Teams
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Bashir Usman, said Justice Bunza was kidnapped around midnight on Sunday.
He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Muhammad Hadejia, has since ordered the deployment of tactical and intelligence teams to track the gunmen and work towards securing the judge's safe release.
Security Concerns in Kebbi State
The abduction of a serving High Court judge adds to growing concerns over the security situation in parts of Kebbi State, where armed groups described as bandits have continued to target residents, including prominent public figures, in coordinated attacks.
