While the battle for the overall title dominated attention at the 2026 community marathon, another inspiring achievement unfolded along the 18-kilometre course.

Afolabi Rofiat, representing Ilese, became the first female athlete to cross the finish line, completing the race in 1 hour and 42 minutes.

Her performance earned applause from spectators who lined sections of the marathon route, as she emerged as the leading female finisher in a field that featured runners from different communities across Ogun State.

The annual 18-kilometre marathon has grown into one of the signature sporting events of the community’s yearly celebration, attracting athletes who test their endurance across a challenging route that begins at the Eagle FM premises, passes through Erunwon, Classic Hotel Roundabout, Ibadan Garage, Lagos Garage, Epe Garage and Oke-Owa, before ending in Ilese.

For Rofiat, crossing the finish line was more than completing a demanding race. As the first woman to finish this year’s marathon, she added her name to one of the event’s standout moments and demonstrated the growing participation of women in grassroots long-distance running competitions.

Community members and supporters welcomed her at the finish line, celebrating her determination and resilience after completing the demanding course.
