Today, at approximately 1:40 pm on November 1, 2024, the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) Students Union Parliamentary House, led by Distinguished Sen. Afolabi, officially lifted the ban on electioneering activities for the Students Union body, marking the beginning of the election process for the 2024/2025 academic session.

In a formal announcement, the Students House of Senate informed the general student body that the Independent Electoral Commission (ITEC) has been inaugurated and is now prepared to conduct elections for various Union offices. This significant development paves the way for candidates to start their campaigns and engage with the student electorate.

Senate President Sen. Afolabi emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to electoral laws and guidelines laid out in the Union Constitution and reiterated by the Electoral Commission. He stated, “By the independent power conferred on the Electoral Commission, the ban on electioneering processes into the Student Union offices has been lifted.” This official lift grants aspirants the freedom to promote their visions and ideas for the Union.

However, Sen. Afolabi issued a stern reminder to all aspirants to respect the Union’s electoral regulations. “It should be borne in mind that adherence to the electoral laws in the Union Constitution, as well as the rules and regulations laid down by the Commission, is very important, and as such, any aspirant who defaults in any aspect of the laws or regulations shall be disqualified,” he warned.

In light of this, the Senate President directed the ITEC to swiftly commence arrangements for the elections, highlighting the need to avoid delays or potential postponements. He also encouraged both the University administration and the student body to uphold peace and support a free and fair election process. He urged everyone involved to be vigilant and prevent any actions that could disrupt the University’s environment.
